About us

Most medical research in the UK is funded not by government but by charities like Cancer and Polio Research Fund.  Based in the North West, we were founded more than 40 years ago by a local philanthropist.  As a result of his generosity, we have been able to give more than £35 million in furtherance of our objective: the advancement of education and the preservation of health and relief of sickness by the promotion of research into cancer and other crippling diseases.

Today, Cancer and Polio Research Fund sponsors specialist research into cancer, and in particular the spread of cancer, and into the long-term after-effects of polio.  The former is undertaken mainly at our own Laboratories at the University of Liverpool, which are now world leaders in the subject, but we also fund research at other universities, research institutes and hospitals throughout the country.

Since our founder’s death, we have had to undertake our own fundraising and are now totally dependant on the general public, companies, grant-making trusts and other organisations for support.  If you would like to make a donation, please click on the How you can help button, then the Make a donation button and finally select the method by which you would like to give.  Alternatively, there are other ways that you can help - please click on the How you can help button and select the way you would like to.
